Extra Long Fishing Rod Shaft Driver c1910

This club is extra special. It was made with an extra long shaft, which were known as "fishing rod" shafts for obvious reasons. They briefly appeared about 1910 and then quickly dissapeared as it was realised they are so long it is near impossible to control them. This club was made by F.Renouf, Bromley , Kent and the head and shaft are both stamped as such. The club measures nearly 51 inches from top to toe. It was definately purpose made to be this length- it has not been extended in any way. The scare joint is very long and extra whipping has been applied to reinforce the very thin section of shaft at this point. Two extra bullets of lead have also been melted into the head, yet this club does not have a huge swingweight! Amazing. The grip is original. A rare club.
