John Gray General Iron c1880

A rare general iron, pre-cursor to a mashie in loft, made by John Gray of Prestwick, Scotland. John Gray was one of the first blacksmiths to mark the name of the golf clubs he made with his name. The head has a dark patina as would be expected with wrought-iron hand forged heads. The name stamp is distinguishable. There are two old numbered stickers on the shaft near the grip indicating this club is likely to have been in older golf club collections. A nice treasure of a club.
