Blacksmith Made Cleek c1860
£645.00
This is a rare and genuine blacksmith made cleek dating to around 1860 possibly earlier. The head has all the characteristics one looks for in an early club...it is very heavy, top of the blade is very thick, the hammer weld is visible along the hosel, the hosel to head joint is very sharp and the knicking is so sharp you can cut yourself on it! This club once belonged to Sir Guy Campbell who wrote several books in the early part of the 20th century on the history of golf. When I obtained the club the shaft had been cut-down so I have extended the shaft by approximately 6 inches to it's original length and have fitted an old sheepskin grip..the joint does not show and the club displays extremely well. The head is slightly loose on the shaft but that is just old age, nothing serious or detrimental. I believe in giving a complete appraisal of a club so the buyer knows exactly what he or she is receiving. This is a great club for those who want an item from the feather ball era.
